"الطائرة الشمسية" السويسرية تحط بسلام بعد 26 ساعة في السماء

حطت الطائرة "سولار انبالس" التي تعمل بالطاقة الشمسية الخميس بسلام بعد تحليق استمر 26 ساعة.

وحطت الطائرة التي قادها الطيار اندريه بورشبرغ في مدرج قاعدة بايرن العسكرية غربي سويسرا عند الساعة التاسعة صباحا بالتوقيت المحلي (السابعة بتوقيت غرينتش)، واستقبلت بتصفيق نحو مئة من المتفرجين.

وتمكن قائد الطائرة من ايقافها تماما بعد اجتياز مسافة على المدرج لا تتجاوز 100 متر.

وكانت هذه الطائرة التي يبلغ طول جناحيها 60 مترا، أي مثل طول جناحي طائرة ركاب تجارية، قد اقلعت باكرا صباح الاربعاء.

وتكتفي الطائرة التي يبلغ وزنها 1600 كيلوغرام بالطاقة التي تنتجها حوالي 12 ألف خلية شمسية تغطي جناحيها، وتغذي أربعة محركات آلية تقدر قوة كل واحد منها بعشرة أحصنة.

كذلك، تسمح هذه الطاقة بإعادة شحن بطاريات ليثيوم تزن 400 كيلوغرام.

وفي السابع من ابريل نيسان، اجتازت "سولار انبالس" الاختبار الاول بنجاح اذ حلقت ساعة ونصف في سماء سويسرا.

ومن المقرر ان تسفر سلسلة التجارب هذه عن اقتراح تعديلات على الطائرة تؤدي الى انتاج نموذج جديد قادر على القيام برحلة حول العالم بين العامين 2013 و2014، وليس في العام 2012 كما كان مقررا.

History was made this week when the Solar Impulse, an airplane designed to circumnavigate the globe, successfully completed the first ever manned overnight flight by a solar-powered aircraft. The plane and its sole pilot, Andre Borschberg, landed safely at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning, securing a place in the annals of aviation history, despite the fact that this week’s 24-hour flight is only one step in the Solar Impulse project’s globetrotting time line.

Following a long and sleepless night, project leader and globe-spanning balloonist Bertrand Piccard greeted the press bleary-eyed and admittedly exhausted. Although elation at the success of the test flight was an obvious trump card for the undeniable fatigue.

“It’s a night that lasted for seven years,” he explained on Solar Impulse TV just minutes before the plane landed, “…we’ve been working on the project together with Andre, together with this incredible technical team, engineers, IT people, communication people, our partners…this is the result of so much work, so much dream and so much hope.”

The sense of accomplishment was palpable, even when following via Internet a half a world away.

The Solar Impulse made it through the night using energy stored in batteries divined from 12,000 solar cells lining the aircraft’s wings, which stretch out nearly 32 meters in either direction from the fuselage. During flight, the plane reached a maximum height of about 8,700 meters (28,500 feet) and a ground speed of 68 knots, reports Information Week.

The next step for the Solar Impulse team is actually a new Solar Impulse. This second prototype will be have an even wider wingspan (80 meters) and will test its mettle on a transatlantic flight. By 2012, the Solar Impulse team hopes to be ready for circumnavigation. At that point, the Impulse will fly nonstop through the Northern Hemisphere just north of the equator. Five stops are planned, but only to change pilots; while solar cells and batteries can run indefinitely, humans cannot.
